Someone tweeted that the next season of The Real Housewives on Bravo will take place in Washington D.C. I have watched, in bits and pieces, the O.C., Atlanta, New York and now New Jersey housewives. Here’s my thing: I have a problem with a show calling itself “houseWIVES” when some of them aren’t even married. Bethany is the most likable woman on the NYC show, but she has a DOG; how is she a housewife? By association? And how come there aren’t any wives of color on the shows, except for in Atlanta when it was all brown girls, except for Kim? Can we at least get a token brown chick? I know for a fact that there are housewives of color in New York and New Jersey because I was one of them. I’m a 4 Real Housewife; you can read my story and others like me here.

My daughter enjoys watching this show, but I don’t know about letting her watch it now. Depending on what’s going to happen with Kate & Jon, I don’t want to have to explain to her the reason behind the new family dynamics. I watched the last episode when Jon and Kate talked about their current struggles and it’s really sad to watch what they are going through. I can only imagine how difficult it is to have your public life on display for so many years and I understand Jon’s frustration, but he’s really a PUNK. I believe him when he says that he didn’t cheat on Kate, but he’s also not acting like a responsible husband either. If he’s really that unhappy with their current situation then he needs to man up, talk to Kate and figure out their next move as a family, together.

My two cents; as if you asked.

I totally agree with you on what is going on wit Jon & Kate. In the store today my daughter was reading the headlines on a magazine. I realy didnt know how to respond to her questions about why they are breaking up.

This show has become a little uncomfortable to watch. I’d have to disagree with Jon being a punk. I think that Kate has crowned herself head of the household and doesn’t believe Jon can provide for their family. She made a very telling comment in yesterday’s episode. She said and i’m paraphrasing- “I’ve always had a desire deep down inside to provide for my family.” There goes the problem. I’m not married of course but it seem that the right course of action would be for them to discuss what’s best for the family and go from there. He’s wanted to stop taping since last season. She doesn’t want to. It seems to me that Kate is leading this family. They need to go back to the basics… Maybe I’d see it differently if I were older and married w/ children. :-/

Myrah, I agree with you that Kate seems controlling, somewhat crazy and yes, wants to be the head of their household. They have problems for sure that extend beyond the show. But I guess I think any man who leaves his family is a punk. I just don’t see how that is a justifiable action on his part. He’s a wimp and whiner. I truly hope they work it out.

Did Jon leave his family? I read Kate’s interview in one of the tabloids and she point blank said that she was NOT willing to cancel the show to save her marriage. I agree with men who leave being punks in general, but if your wife wants to play out your entire life in front of millions of people with no end in sight, I think you have a right to say , “No thanks.”
Of course, I hope this family stays together for the children and I honestly think they can work it out if they get their priorities together.

I don’t think it is all Jon’s fault at all. Kate could be a horrible person to live with and like you said, Sapphire, willing to put the show before her marriage. That could all be true and if so, I understand Jon’s frustration and anger. But I don’t understand his actions as far as his family is concerned. If he wants out of the show, he should say “I love you and my family; I want us to work it out and stay together, but I don’t think we can do that while still filming the show. I am willing to do whatever I need to keep this family together, but not on TV.” And if Kate still wants to film the show at the expense of her family’s happiness, then at least Jon did all that he could. I would respect that.
But right now he’s acting immature. (According to the episode I saw and what I’m reading).

I do not care for Real Housewives. I never watched the first one. I might take a peek at the DC one since I am from the area but I dunno.
I may have to stop watching Kate plus 8 Minus Jon. I do not know if its for the ratings or if its really going downhill for them. I cannot begin to understand how to live in their shoes and I do not envy them in anyway. I hope they can work it out but if its not meant to be its not meant to be.

Jon states I am only 32 like that is a good reason to disrupt your family. It was time to stand up not walk away

Mikesmom,
Jon’s statement was a total Punk thing to say (in my opinion).
Since my initial post the whole thing has gotten worse and it has made me both sad and angry.
